Secrets of Champions III - Young Bird Racing
Young Bird Racing
"THE CREAM OF THE CROP!" British Homing World - Dec. 2007
What does it take to be competitive in modern young bird racing? That's the subject Jim Jenner explores as he visits some of the world's best pigeon racers. Nothing in the sport has changed as much as the competition with birds in the year of their birth. By breeding earlier, and selecting for faster maturing birds, today's competitors are achieving performances that were unthinkable a few years ago. By using the forces of nature to retard the moult, and motivating older, stronger and more mature pigeons, today's "young birds" often outshine older competitors in many of Europe's biggest races. Traveling to Holland, Belgium, England and the United States this documentary explores the secrets of breeding the best young pigeons. The stages of weaning and training are explored as are the methods of "darkening". Chapters on health and motivation, as well as the impact of electronic timing on trapping are also included. Extra Special Features include tips on winter breeding and young bird feeding. It's an over three hour visit with some of the sharpest minds in the pigeon racing sport.
